The American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois (ACEC-Illinois) conducts an annual scholarship program which provided eleven (11) $1,500 Named Scholarships for the Fall 2011 school year. These Named Scholarships are graciously sponsored by ACEC-Illinois Member Firms. In addition, the top Named Scholarship winner also receives the $2500 Lonnie H. Carter Memorial Scholarship and advances to compete at the national level for an additional $10,000, $7,500 or $5,000 scholarship. See 2011 Scholarship results. (Acrobat Reader required)
At the discretion of the judges, a student not receiving the top award, who is getting a PhD degree in Structural Engineering and has already received a BS or MS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, may qualify to have their application forwarded to National to compete in the $5,000 Council of American Structural Engineers (CASE) Scholarship Program.
At the state level, a Committee of ACEC-Illinois Volunteer Members (Consulting Engineers and Principals of their firms) evaluate applications and select the ACEC-Illinois scholarship award winners. Information submitted on the application includes the student's GPA; Work Experience; Extracurricular College Activities; Recommendation from a Professor, Consulting Engineer or Land Surveyor; and an Essay.
